Our dedicated festival sign language access page covers the multi-stage playbook in detail.

Only with PI

Your BSL & ISL audiences now have their own dedicated app

Your Deaf audiences want to attend. This app helps them discover what’s on and accessible, demonstrates how to ask for access, and gives them confidence and know-how. The PI Events App removes the barriers for the customers. Free to download, no sign-up required, nothing for your team to manage.

For organisers, it means better engagement, measurable access impact and evidence you can use in your reporting. Your event appears in the app automatically when you book with PI.

Why PI

The difference between a supplier and a consultancy

Most agencies provide a name and a DBS check. They let you figure out positioning, lighting, rotation schedules and legal compliance on your own. We’ve seen the results - interpreters placed where nobody can see them, no rotation plan for a twelve-hour festival and organisers exposed to legal risk they didn’t know existed.

Performance Interpreting operates as a consultancy. That’s why Wembley, The O2, Live Nation and the Premier League choose PI — a service that integrates seamlessly with theirs.

Event-specialist interpreters - not generalists

NRCPD-registered, every time - no exceptions

600+ events including six Premier League clubs and national arenas

Legal compliance confidence - our testimony set the precedent

What people say

Trusted by organisers and audiences alike

We couldn't be more grateful to Performance Interpreting for their incredible work. Their amazing team of BSL interpreters brought energy, passion, and accessibility to every performance.

Adam

Event Organiser, Croydon PrideFest

Great communication, great help, great organisation. Booked again for Coldplay at Wembley. More people using this service more awareness this will be!

Karen Rutter

Concert attendee, Liverpool M&S Arena

Interpreters are nearer the main stage this year. I was pleased so I can stand watch the interpreters AND the performances.

Organisers FAQs

Common questions from event organisers, festivals, venues and broadcasters.

Do we legally need BSL access at our event?
In most cases, yes. Under the Equality Act 2010 (England, Scotland and Wales), service providers must make reasonable adjustments for Deaf customers — and BSL interpreting at live events is now an established reasonable adjustment, in part because of the landmark Little Mix case PI testified in. In Northern Ireland the equivalent is the Disability Discrimination Act 1995; in Ireland, the Irish Sign Language Act 2017 applies. We can advise on your specific obligations.
How far in advance should we book?
As soon as you know your event dates. For major festivals and tours, four to eight weeks ahead is typical; for one-off shows, two to four weeks is workable. We'll always tell you honestly if a request is too tight, and we'll often find a way to make it work.
How many interpreters does our event need?
It depends on event duration, content complexity, audience size and the kind of access experience you want to deliver. A single show might need two interpreters rotating; a multi-day festival needs a designed team. As part of our consultancy we'll spec the right team for your event — not the other way around.
What's the difference between BSL and ISL?
British Sign Language (BSL) is the language of the UK Deaf community. Irish Sign Language (ISL) is a distinct language used by the Deaf community in Ireland. They are not mutually intelligible. For events in Ireland or Northern Ireland we can advise on the appropriate language provision.
What's included in a Full Access Package?
Beyond BSL or ISL interpreting, a Full Access Package can include live captions, induction loop systems, sight-line and lighting design for interpreter placement, on-site coordination on the day, and post-event reporting. Everything is tailored to your venue, audience and event type.
Do you handle events outside the UK and Ireland?
Our core coverage is the UK and Ireland. We will consider international events on a case-by-case basis where it makes sense — get in touch with your specific requirements.
How much does interpreter access cost?
Pricing depends on event scale, duration, the number of interpreters needed, and whether you need a full access package or just interpreting. We'll provide a tailored quote — contact us with your event details and we'll come back with specifics.
