Accessibility Statement
Our commitment to making this website accessible to everyone.
Our commitment
Performance Interpreting exists to make live events accessible for Deaf audiences. We hold ourselves to the same standard with our digital platforms.
We are committed to ensuring this website is accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of technology or ability. We aim to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.
What we do
This website has been designed and built with accessibility in mind. We have taken the following steps:
Semantic HTML and structure
We use proper heading hierarchy, landmarks and semantic elements so screen readers and assistive technologies can navigate the site effectively.
Keyboard navigation
All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard. A 'Skip to content' link is provided at the top of every page.
Colour contrast
Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast ratios against their backgrounds.
Alternative text
Images include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked as such.
Responsive design
The site is usable across screen sizes and supports text resizing without loss of content or functionality.
Form accessibility
All form fields have visible labels and are associated with their inputs programmatically.
Reduced motion
Decorative animations, scroll behaviours and the AI assistant typing indicator respect the operating system's reduced-motion preference.
Live announcements
Streaming responses from PIPA (our AI assistant) are announced to screen readers via an ARIA live region. PIPA is fully keyboard-accessible and can be dismissed with the Escape key.
Larger touch targets
Primary buttons and interactive controls meet WCAG AAA (44 × 44 px) where practical.
Descriptive link text
We avoid generic "click here" or "view details" links. Every link describes its destination so screen-reader users can navigate by link list.
Known limitations
We are aware that no website is perfectly accessible. If you encounter any barriers while using this site, please let us know. We will make reasonable efforts to address the issue promptly.
Some third-party content (such as embedded maps or external links) may not meet the same accessibility standards. We encourage those providers to improve their accessibility.
BSL content
As a BSL interpreting provider, we recognise that written English is not the first language of many Deaf people. We aim to keep our content clear and concise. If you would prefer to communicate with us in BSL, please contact us and we will arrange a BSL conversation.
Feedback and contact
If you experience any difficulty accessing content on this website, or if you have suggestions for how we can improve accessibility, please contact us:
Email: enquiries@performanceinterpreting.co.uk
We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 working days.
Deafblind, Usher syndrome and other access needs
Beyond standard BSL or ISL interpreting, Performance Interpreting works with Deafblind audiences, people with Usher syndrome (combined hearing and progressive vision loss), and attendees with low vision, sensory processing differences or other needs.
Common approaches include hands-on signing, close-vision signing, sighted-guide support and pre-event briefings tailored to the individual. Each set-up is built around the attendee.
If you have specific access needs that aren't fully covered by what you see on an event detail page, please contact us at enquiries@performanceinterpreting.co.uk or use the request form on /events/request and tell us what you need. We will work it through with you and the venue.
Enforcement
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Equality Advisory Support Service (EASS) at equalityadvisoryservice.com or the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).
